Friend of university opens new building

South Wales Argus: 7 March 2007

A NEW university building to house fashion design students was opened in Newport.

The Kegie building, at the Caerleon campus of the University of Wales, Newport, is the first phase of a 4,000-square-metre building designed to provide more teaching space to cope with the growing number of students.

The building has a number of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient features.

It is named after Helen Kegie, MBE, vice-chairwoman of the Seren Group, in honour of her exceptional generosity towards the university.

She set up the Kegie Trust to provide support for the institution and its students.

Among the guests at the opening were Lord Raglan and Newport West AM Rosemary Butler.
