First steps on the property ladder

Homebuy

HOMEBUY aims to help people on lower incomes become homeowners. It's available to people who cannot afford to buy a property on the open market but who have sufficient income or savings to be able to afford 70% of the purchase price.

The remaining 30% is met through a loan from a housing association, which can be repaid at any time and will always be 30% of the property value at that time. One such organisation that operates a range of affordable home ownership schemes is Fairlake Properties, part of the Seren Group, one of Wales' largest housing and care providers.

Pam Robson, sales and property manager at Fairlake said, “Most house hunters haven't heard of the Homebuy scheme and are unaware of the different options available. The New Build scheme is part of the National Affordable Housing Programme, which aims to build 35,000 homes over the next two years.”

Where in Wales?

Nant-y-Llwydd, Pontllanfraith from Fairlake in conjunction with George Wimpey offers three-bedroom houses from £118,996. There's also Glyngaer Farm in Gelligaer – Fairlake have 10 tw0-bedroom houses available from February from £80,500. Call 01633 233876
