The finalists have been chosen for the social housing world's most prestigious event – the 2006 UK Housing Awards.

Following careful deliberation over the hundreds of entries, a panel of esteemed judges from across the sector has narrowed down the field to recognise the sector's most innovative and important work.

In advance of the comprehensive spending review, this year's awards, organised by Inside Housing and the Chartered Institute of Housing, include an extra 13th category: Making the case for housing.

Finalists will gather at a glittering ceremony at London's Park Lane Hilton hotel on 9 November. Simon Weston, Falklands hero and co-founder of the Weston Spirit charity, will be the guest speaker.

Fairlake Properties, Seren Group and Charter Housing Association were amongst the finalists for the "Outstanding achievement in social housing in Wales" award.
