Youngsters discover Grassroots of Theatre

South Wales Argus: 16 August 2006

Abergavenny youngsters took to the stage thanks to a unique international community initiative.

Grassroots, a dynamic performing arts organisation from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, delivered a week-long series of workshops resulting from a collaboration between Communities First and Charter Housing Association, a member of the Seren Group.

Youngsters aged eight to 15 were shown the secrets of the stage before putting on their own performance in front of family, neighbours and guests at a community barbeque.

The theatre group, who use dance, drama and music as a process towards informing and empowering local communities, are on tour in the UK and are in Maindee this week.
