Our BIG 5
Seren Group celebrated its 5th birthday in July. To help celebrate, we gave five people the opportunity to do something which will make a difference to their life or the lives of others. We asked tenants, the people we support, residents and staff to put forward their entries to the competition. The response was fantastic. Each entry had a hugely inspiring story behind it. The entries were judged by Bob Hutchings (chair of the seren group), John Puzey (chief executive of shelter cymru) and our patron Baroness Glenys Kinnock. Choosing 5 winners from the entries was a really tough gig!
So, who are the lucky BIG 5?
Anna Ozemoya works for Charter Housing. Anna plans on visiting an orphanage in Uganda and undertaking an art project with the children (Anna has a nephew who was adopted from this orphanage).
Kenneth Morrow works for Reach. Ken plans on visiting a community in Poland as a volunteer to help with the homeless, drug and alcohol abusers and under privileged.
Susan Hall is a Charter tenant . Following a cancer scare, and despite numerous health problems, she plans to travel Europe by campervan which she intends to kit out herself.
Mark Roper is supported by Reach. Books are an important part of his life. His ambition is to own a lifetime supply of Ladybird books. A big thank you to Ladybird who are helping us with Marks ambition and have offered him a visit to their offices.
Heidi Sanderson works for Solas. Heidi organised a week long sailing adventure for 16 young homeless people. The Cirdan Sailing Trust were fantastic and generously ‘upgraded’ the experience. They sailed to France on 29th August and spent time at Cowes in the Isle of Wight.
More adventures of Our Big 5 will be posted as they unfold…
